Almost 70 years passes from introduction of fluorescent lamps. These lamps are among the most economic lamps especially for internal illumination due to their high light co-efficient and suitable light color. The bulbs of these lamps are filled with low pressure Mercury vapor gas and electric discharge in Mercury vapor gas causes ultraviolet light emission.

• Compact fluorescent lamps (energy saving lamps ) :

Production of compact fluorescent lamps provided a great alteration in improvement of electric energy consumption for illumination. From efficiency point of view , these lamps are completely similar to fluorescent lamps and are called compact fluorescent lamps or briefly as CFL just because their volumes are much smaller than fluorescent lamps . Nevertheless, they have became well-known as energy saving lamps due to their very low energy consumption and very good output compared with filamentary lamps.
